Every vacation brings new sights, new acquaintances and new experiences. Our recent vacation to St. Barth’s was not an exception. A medical emergency redefined the sights, acquaintances and experiences of our trip. Being outside of the country complicated treatment. Despite the challenges during our stay, I am very grateful for so many people of the island of St. Barth.
Michel & Jany Blanchard
Thank you for you genuine care and concern for my condition. I regret that I was not able to enjoy the remaining days of paradise at your guest villa. Thank you for going above and beyond as villa owners and allowing Randy to stay an additional 4 days. I truly appreciated seeing you in the hospital. Most importantly thank you for your hospitality and friendship to him while I was hospitalized in Gustavia. The new friendship developed among us during our vacation is the greatest blessing of our trip. God bless you Michel & Jany, I hope that we can reciprocate when you visit us in Michigan.
Villa Le Perchoir
The Staff at DeBruyn Hospital
What your hospital may have been lacking in diagnostic equipment was made up in your professionalism, expertise and kindness. I never once felt like I was lessor of a patient for being a foreigner. Every nurse and doctor was compassionate and genuinely concerned for my well-being. I regret that I was not able to get to know each of you better, nor for you to know the normally well Denise Hummel.
I remember in a moment of extreme pain when I told one of the nurses that I was breathing “he he he hoo” like Le Maze, and the nurse reciprocated by loudly announcing “it’s a girl”! Your humor was great medicine. Each of the three doctors assigned to my care were great. Thank you Dr. Jerome for lifting me out of the little car and on to the stretcher. When it looked like my US insurance group was abandoning the idea of evacuation, Dr. Jerome immediately stepped in and started to make arrangements to fly me to St. Maarten for greater medical care. And to the doctor (sorry I don’t know your name), who almost put a stop to any talk of surgery and medical evacuation in the beginning, at the end you did the most compassion act in getting me and Randy home, your kindness still brings tears to my eyes -- thank you, thank you, thank you. For a small island hospital, you have a great big heart and we are grateful to all of you.
WinAir and Emergency Medical Personnel
Your coordination of the transfer from the hospital to the airport to meet the WinAir plane and pilot was nothing short of awesome, despite the the bumpy roads. I am grateful to the pilot (& awesome co-pilot) for the safe flight to St. Maarten to meet the medical evacuation jet.
Gumbs Car Rental
Thank you so much Odile. Randy had to make a quick drop of the car at the airport the morning of evacuation without checking it back in. Allowing him to have the car 4 extra days was very helpful. Your generosity was beyond anything we’ve ever experienced with any car rental company.
So you might think that with this experience we would not return to St. Barth’s. To the contrary, we have made some great new friends and it has made us very loyal to the island and your people. St. Barth’s is a beautiful island with many, many beautiful and kind people. We will return!
